Kid,
You and your family are in my thoughts at this difficult time. It takes time. It doesn't make the pain less, time just helps to teach us to cope in a different way. All your fellow drivers also want me to pass their concern and condolences.

To the Family of Darlene:

I cannot express the emotions that my daughters, Emilee Ann Kincaid (26) and Aimee Elise Kincaid (24) and I experienced after learning of Darlene's passing. There was never a more down-to-earth woman. She brooked no nonsense from her students, but she was fair, impartial, and I as a single mother never had to worry about my precious girls when they were riding on her bus route. When we lived in Rokeby Locks, my girls were the first to be picked up by Darlene and the last to be dropped off. They could be a handful, but Darlene never treated us like we were dysfunctional or unworthy. In fact, she told me one time that she was going to call the school (East Elementary) and speak to them on the girls' and my behalf, because I had "raised such strong, opinionated daughters who were just sticking up for themselves and each other when some 'asinine' kids were giving them a hard time." I baked her a coffee cake as a thank you and peace offering, and I could tell that it touched her. She told me at the time that it had better not be a bribe to get us back in her"good graces!" We will always remember her fairness, kindness, and great sense of humor. She never failed to remember my girls, and when I ran into her after some years, remembered me, my girls, and the grandbabies! SUCH a TREASURE. Bus drivers such as she was, are a fading species, unfortunately. I don't know how she did it for 20+ years, but I know we were blessed to have her! Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your home of grief.
