Gerald E. "Jerry" Knapp, 85, of McConnelsville passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018 peacefully surrounded by his family at the Riverside Landing Nursing & Rehab Center. He was born January 31, 1933 in Cleveland to the late, Adam Edward Knapp and F. Dorothy (Crane) Knapp Kriss. He worked for the Ohio State Health Dept. in Columbus and later worked for and retired from the Ohio E.P.A. Water Division in Logan. He served as police chief for the Village of McConnelsville and was commissioned as a deputy for the Morgan County Sheriff's Office. Jerry served as a juvenile mentor for the Morgan Local Schools and attended the McKendree United Methodist Church. He was a 60 year member of Harding Concordia Masonic Lodge in Cleveland. Jerry was also a member of the Logan Chapter York Rite and the Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge. His passion in life was his family and he enjoyed watching his children and grand children participate in athletic events. He is survived by three daughters, Kimberly (Jeff) Baker of Twinsburg, Michele (Tim) James of Stockport, and Jennifer (Lonny) Jarrett of Zanesville; three sons, Mark (Nancy) Knapp of McConnelsville, Jay (Tania) Knapp of San Diego, CA., and Kyle (Becky) Knapp of McConnelsville. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great grandchildren; special in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty J. Knapp and a sister, Doreen Moreau. Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville where funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the McKendree United Methodist Church.
