Daniel A. Drake, beloved husband to Allison, and father to Dalaney Alyse, was taken
from them the early morning of July 26th, 2025, despite valiant efforts made by the wonderful
four who responded to his call. It will never be understood why a man of age 54, with so much
life to live, would be taken from this world, the world he worked so hard for to give to Allison and
Dalaney.
In regards to work, he was a friend to many, and was respected and admired for the job
he did everyday, especially by those he worked with at Verizon Wireless. He won many awards
for always going above and beyond with any task he was given, and never said no to any call
he would receive to go out and take care of an emergency in the middle of the night, and the
more difficult brought him the greatest pride. He had a special relationship with many members
of upper management, that attests to how he was not hindered to tell it like it was, what was
needed to get the job done, and then ensured it was completed in record time. It was well
known that he could fix anything, and at times given tasks that only he could figure out. He was
gifted at solving puzzles that would be handed off to him, that at times seemed impossible, but
given time, he always figured it out. He was modest by saying,
”It was just another day at work.”
but the magnitude of his efforts had a great impact. He gave a lot of credit to many he worked
with, but often was the driving force.
On top of all he did day to day, Dan was part of the Disaster Recovery Team, and his last
call was to Hurricane Helene. His days spent there, showed many his,
“How are we going to do
this?”, and went and got it done, no matter the danger attached to it, knowing he was helping
others who had lost everything, to supply emergency services, and hope to many. He was
forever changed by what he witnessed and from the gratitude of everyone he helped. With him
gone, a large part of Verizon Wireless will forever be changed.
He and Allison were together 38 years, and had the immense gift of raising their
daughter together. To see Dalaney and he together, put a smile on many faces, how they were
connected by thought, music, and pure goofiness. He and she were fire and air, and Allison was
the water that would have to douse them from time to time if not properly supervised, and
sometimes that didn’t even matter. A dry ice bomb is in their top five for sure!
In addition to his girls, and many who loved him, he is survived by his brother, Dave, of
Malta, OH, and his sister, Debbie of Tampa, FL, who will miss their brother until they are
reunited. He follows in death, his parents, Ted and Betty Drake, his father-in-law Robert Gheen,
his Pap and Gran Bresock, his Grandma and Grandpa Drake, and Aunts and Uncles, and his
two boys that are now with their father. Of all the animals he helped live, and the ones he loved,
they were surely there to meet him with everyone that were at the gates of heaven to welcome
him into his life of eternal peace.
Dan never wanted a fuss made over him in life, and felt the same about his his death.
With his cremation, he wasn’t sure exactly where he wanted to be scattered, but is surely not
suprised that his girls are going to keep him with them. It has been arranged that a service will
be held at the Church of the Gospel Ministry, 210 N. Kennebec Ave., McConnelsville,OH onAugust 9th, 2025, at 11:00 am, with lunch to follow and a toast made to Dan with his favorite
beverage. Any one who would like to speak at the time of service is welcome to.
Dan will forever be proud of Dalaney, and was excited about her acceptance and
upcoming move to Miami University of Ohio Honors College. He shared with many how happy
he was for her to get to experience campus life and to become her best self, while studying the
field of Geology. He was happy that she was going to be doing in her career what she loved
doing her entire life, Rocks!
In lieu of flowers, Dan would want friends, family, and colleagues, to help with Dalaney,
where he no longer can. In his memory, a Go-Fund-Me account has been created to add ease
and comfort to her college experience.
His family would like to thank the responding officers of the Morgan County Sheriff, for
their kindness and understanding shown to Allison and Dalaney, and for exhibiting great respect
for Dan in the end. Also, a special thank you goes to Miller-Huck Funeral Home for taking care
of Dan, so he can be returned to his family, and helping them navigate through all the
uncertainty.
