David Bankes Obituary

David Daniel Bankes, 82, of Malta, Ohio was reunited with his bride, Muriel Joann (Ballard) Bankes in death on April 24th, 2021 surrounded by loved ones.
Born on Sept. 29, 1938 in Malta, Ohio he was the beloved son of the late Riley and Ruth (Penrod) Bankes. David is survived by his four children, Judy (Daniel) Wilson, Jon (Ash) Bankes, Kat (Adam) Norris and Lisa (Jacob) Smith; his seventeen grandchildren, Joshua (Regina) Wilson, Tabitha (Aaron) Downing, Makayla Bankes, Samuel Wilson, Stephen Wilson, Timothy Wilson, Jonah Norris, Jedidiah Wilson, Sara Smith, Anna Norris, Kemuel Wilson, Rachel Bankes, Olivia Smith, Adiel Wilson, Jamin Wilson, Xander Smith, and Ian Bankes; as well as two great grandchildren, Jeremiah Wilson and Aria Wilson; and his faithful dog, Argy. He is the brother of Roy (Linda) Bankes and the late Walter (Shirley) Bankes.
David was a faithful member of Portersville United Methodist Church. As long as his health allowed, David loved volunteering in the Emmaus community and enjoyed working in every role he was able. David worked the majority of his career as a nursing home administrator, but was also a manager at Krogers and was a peacetime veteran of the army where he was stationed in Germany. David was also a Master Gardener who loved his time spent in his garden. He was an avid photographer who spent years involved in the Morgan County Camera Club. A gun and hunting enthusiast, David was a lifetime member of the NRA.
David loved cooking for his family and spending time with them outdoors. His family has many great memories of hiking in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Fern Lake, Yellowstone National Park, Spruce Lake, New Zealand, Grandfather Mountain, kayaking and fishing on the Allegheny River and the New River, and enjoying the North Carolina and Florida beaches. David loved airplanes for all of his life and flying his own plane from Florida to Ohio was a memory he never forgot.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SEO Emmaus c/o Suzette, 16053 Pleasant Ridge Rd, Laurelville Ohio 43135 or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. A Celebration of Life for both David and Muriel Bankes will be announced later this summer. David and Muriel’s children would love for friends and family to send remembrances or videos to bankesmemorial@gmail.com.
