Donald E. Palmer, 94, of McConnelsville passed away Friday, September 6, 2024 in Zanesville. He was born October 16, 1929 in Zanesville a son of the late Chester Palmer and Margaret West Palmer. Don was a 1947 graduate of M. & M. High School. He then enlisted in the U. S. Army and served during the Korean War. After getting discharged from the military, he worked at the former Clevite and Gould Corporation in McConnelsville. He then pursued a career in teaching machine trades at Morgan High School for 26 years. Don was a life long, dedicated member of the M. & M. Fire Dept. where he held many offices. He was one of the first volunteer paramedics in Morgan County. Don was a 50 plus year employee of Finley Fire Equipment in McConnelsville where he worked as a sales representative. He was recognized by Pierce Fire Apparatus for his 50 years of service. Don was a longtime member of the McConnelsville Methodist Church, the Corinthian Lodge #111 F & AM, and the Valley Chapter # 19 OES of McConnelsville. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #24 of Mcconnelsville and served on the Color Guard for many years. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Rick) Huck and Linda (Donnie) Mosier all of McConnelsville, a son Rick (Stacie) Palmer of Zanesville, six grandchildren, Jason (Emily) Huck, Jessica (Jason) Cooper, Dr. Amanda Palmer, Brad (Carolyne ) Palmer, Madison (Austin) Hale, Gianna Palmer, seven great grandchildren, Joel and Ella Huck, Crosley and Huxley Cooper, Samuel Hale, Wyatt and Luke Palmer. Also surviving is a special niece, Kelly Zumbro, a special friend Dorothy Ann Stout of McConnelsville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ila Jean Richardson Palmer, a sister Bonnie Ramsey and a brother Landon Palmer. Friends and family may call Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home. An eastern star service will be held at 4 p.m. and a masonic service will be at 8 p.m. A funeral service will be Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the McConnelsville Methodist Church with pastors Phil King and Galen Finley officiating. Don will be laid to rest beside his wife in McConnelsville Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #24 Color Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the M & M Fire Dept. or to the McConnelsville Methodist Church.
