Kathryn Sidwell, 84, of Malta passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025 at her home. She was born the daughter of Bob and Grace Newsom at home on the family farm in Penn Township, Morgan County, Ohio. Siblings were Clyde and Pat. She started school at McConnelsville Elementary, the family moved to Perry County and she attended the Bristol two room schoolhouse during grades five through eight. After graduating from New Lexington High School she attended the three year diploma in nursing program at White Cross Hospital in Columbus and graduated as a member of the first graduation class of the Riverside White Cross Hospital School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. Later she became a graduate of Ohio University. She loved nursing and was proud to have attended a hospital based nursing program. Her working career spanned nearly fifty years, working at Riverside in Columbus, Bethesda and Good Samaritan Hospitals in Zanesville, and teaching for the Mid-East Career and Technology Centers in Zanesville for thirty-seven years. She was recognized as the Ohio Health Occupations Teacher of the Year in 1990 as well as other awards during her years of teaching. Kathryn was a member of the Malta Methodist Church and was active in the women's group and served as a Sunday School teacher. She loved beautiful old hymns and enjoyed listening to BBN. She was a 50 plus year member of the Order of Eastern Star and participated in the Nurses Health Study since the 1970s. She loved God and family, enjoyed nature and her flowers. She enjoyed reading, watching and feeding the birds and watching old movies especially Gone with the Wind and westerns with John Wayne, Gary Cooper, or Randalph Scott. She was married to her late husband, Todd Sidwell for 64 years. She is survived by her children Mike and Angie. She loved her children and grandchildren, including Michael, Ariel, Arien, Arionna. She was very involved in the school, church, and sports life of of her special grandchildren who were so dear to her heart including twins Jordan and Jasmine, Marty, Makayla, and Madison. Several great grandchildren also survive. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Jamie Sidwell in July of 2022. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2025 from 12-1 p.m. at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. and Kathryn will be laid to rest beside her husband in Zion Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Malta Methodist Church.
