Lois Daniel Obituary

Lois Carol (Davis) Daniel, 97, of New Providence, New Jersey passed away of natural causes in her home on June 19, 2022 with her daughter by her side. Lois was a long-time resident of McConnelsville. She joins her husband, Robert Malcolm Daniel - former Morgan County Probate and Common Pleas Court Judge - and son Jeffrey Robert Daniel who passed on before her.

She was born to the late Carlos Scurlock and Emma Alwilda (Frey) Davis on May 9, 1925 in Akron, Ohio. Lois graduated from Ohio State University and met Robert Daniel while working for the Dean of Women at Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio where Robert was attending school on the GI Bill after serving in World War II. The couple lived in Columbus, Ohio while Robert went to law school and then raised their two children – Jeffrey and Patricia - in McConnelsville.

Lois was a dedicated member of the McConnelsville United Presbyterian Church where she found her church home and served on many committees over the years. Lois worked as a legal secretary for her husband, as an assistant reading teacher and as a secretary in the guidance office at Morgan High School. She volunteered in many capacities over the years including delivering for Franciscan Community Meals, volunteering for residents of Highland Oaks Health Care Center, and tutoring children in reading at McConnelsville Elementary, to name a few.

When she relocated in 2017 to be near her daughter, she found a new set of dear friends in her retirement community and a new church home at New Providence United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia J. (Daniel) Kaiser of Short Hills, New Jersey; two granddaughters Emma Ray Kaiser of New Jersey and Christina Daniel of North Carolina; two grandsons Joseph Maurice Kaiser of New Jersey and Brian Jeffrey Daniel of Florida; four great grandchildren; and an extended network of beloved relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the McConnelsville United Presbyterian Church, the New Providence United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army; just three of many organizations that were near to Lois’ heart.

Friends may call Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 5-7 pm at Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville, where services will be held Friday at 1:00 pm with Pastor Galen Finley officiating. Lois will be laid to rest in McConnelsville Cemetery beside her husband and son.
