Mary Alice Fordham Beamer, 106, of Newark, formerly of Malta passed away at the home of her son, Carl Beamer, in Newark on October 30, 2022. Mary was born to Thomas S. and Blanche Phillips Fordham on March 31, 1916 , on their farm in Ritchie County, West Virginia. She was the youngest of six children. In 1928, the family moved to a farm near Stockport, Ohio. She graduated from Windsor High School in Stockport in 1934 and attended business college in Clarksburg, West Virginia. There she met her future husband, Oscar Wade Beamer and they were married in 1937. In 1939 they returned to Ohio and lived with her parents before moving to McConnelsville and then Malta in 1946. Wade and Mary operated a store in McConnelsville , the M&M Auto Supply, from 1956 to 1974. Following Wade's death in 1979, Mary continued to live in Malta until 2006, when she moved to Newark to be closer to her son. She lived independently until 2020, when she moved in with him. One of Mary's favorite activities throughout her life was sewing. She made hundreds of teddy bears and other stuffed animals which she sold or gave away, many quilts and comforts which she donated to needy families through Malta Church, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. For many years she was active in the Malta United Methodist Church and the CCL Mother's Club. She liked playing games, especially dominos and anagrams. Mary was an avid reader, especially in her later years. She liked to travel and enjoyed visiting her grown children in different parts of the country and going on sightseeing trips with friends. Mary is survived by her daughters Charlotte Minnich (Bill) of Lincolndale, New York and Lois Covington Fuchs (Pete) of London, Ontario; her son Carl Beamer (Teresa) of Newark, Ohio; five granddaughters, one grandson, and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Georgia Fordham, Doris Montgomery, Forrest Fordham, Pearl Cline and Randall Fordham; and her oldest son, David W. Beamer. Calling hours will be Friday, November 4,2022 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. with Pastor Galen Finley officiating.
