Mary R. Funk, 80, of McConnelsville passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 23, 1942, in Morgan County, a daughter of the late, Joe Hambel and Ruth Jackson Hambel. Mary was a graduate of the M & M High School Class of 1960. She was retired from the Morgan County Board of Elections, past president of the Morgan County Democratic Party, and was awarded the Morgan County Democratic Woman of the Year. She also worked for Congressman Douglas Applegate. She was a member of the Malta United Methodist Church and was a past member of O.E.S.. Mary was also a past member of the Morgan County Women's Shrine Club and a member of the Malta United Methodist Church Women's Group. She was also a secretary for the Morgan County Commissioners. Mary loved sewing, crafts, and stained glass. Her family was very important to her and she was loved by many. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Francis L. Funk; two daughters, Lorrie (Tim) Bowman of McConnelsville, Gretchen (Mike) Harper of Malta; a son, Chris (Meg) Funk of Malta; and a brother, David Hambel, of Kentucky. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Jennifer Funk, Katie Roberts, Andrew Funk, Carissa Murray, and Brady Bowman; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dana Hambel; stepfather, Charles Richmond; a stepsister, Shirley Slisher; a stepbrother, Dick Richmond; and a great-grandchild, Hudson Roberts. Friends and family may call Tuesday, June 13, 2023, from 12-2 PM at the Malta United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM with Pastors David Brown and Mike Wells officiating. Mary will be laid to rest in Zion Cemetery near Malta. Memorial contributions may be made to the Malta United Methodist Church or to the M & M Fire Dept. & EMS.
