Merrill Lee Gladden, Sr., 84, of Malta passed away at 4:50 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 2, 1936 the son of the late, Merrill E. and Delores Updike Gladden. Merrill graduated from M. & M. High School class of 1954. He attended the Ohio State University. He retired from Gould Electronics (Foil Division) after 35 years. He was the Quality Control Manager and traveled all over the world. Merrill was a lifetime farmer with cow/calf operation. He was past president of Muskingum Quality Control Club. He was a member and past master of Corinthian Lodge #111 and 17 District Education officer for 3 years. He was a past president of the Morgan County Farm Bureau and was a member of the American Legion Post #24. Merrill was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force Reserves for 6 years and represented the Morgan County Farm Bureau president trip in Washington D.C. He was a 60 year member of Malta Grange 717 and was a past master of M. C. Pomona Grange. Merrill was the past president of Morgan Fair Sale Committee. He won the Hall of Fame Award in recognition of distinguished service to the Morgan County Farm Bureau. He also received the P. Daen Gerber Award from the Ohio Masonic Lodge in 2019. Merrill and Carol won the special appreciation award from the Morgan County Junior Fair Sale. He won 2 scientific achievement awards for outstanding technical accomplishments from the Gould Foil Division. Merrill attended McKendree United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Carol Bush Gladden, of 58 years. They were married Oct. 6, 1962. Merrill leaves behind a son, Dr. Merrill Lee Jr. & Jamie Lynne Gladden of Bowling Green, Ohio; one daughter, Angela & Jeff Drake of Malta; grandsons, Dalton Drake, Elijah Gladden, twins Isaac and Isaiah Gladden; and a granddaughter, Peyton Drake. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by in-law parents, Russell & Marcia Davis Bush; and 2 brother-in-laws, William Roth and Gene Bush. Calling hours will be Friday, January 29, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at Miller-Huck Funeral home with a masonic service at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Harmon Thomas officiating. Merrill will be laid to rest in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the M. & M. Fire Dept. or to Trinity United Methodist in McConnelsville.
