Richard “Dick” Cooper Obituary

Richard A. "Dick" Cooper, 89, of Stockport died peacefully on August 23, surrounded by his family.
Dick was born December 21, 1932 to Damon and Opal Mills Cooper. He was the oldest of five children; Marlene Mills, Jim Cooper, Vicki Kraps, and Jerry (Norma) Cooper. He attended Oakland School, and graduated from Windsor High School, in 1950. Always the fun-loving guy, Dick's senior biography said to "Bring on the Blondes!" A gorgeous brunette changed his tune and on February 15, 1958, he married Dorothy Eldridge Cooper.
They raised three daughters on their farm atop Roxbury Hill; Dee (Kyle) Counts, Darla (Glen) Schwendeman, and Dawn (Eric) Nesselroad. Dick taught his girls many of life's greatest lessons; How to fish and ride a bike, mow the grass and put in hay, but most importantly to love the Lord and do good works.
Dick worked at Ohio Power, Muskingum River Plant, retiring after 42 years of service. He enjoyed his time at "the plant" but his retirement years brought him the greatest joy. He loved to golf and bowl and enjoyed the friendships he made on the links and lanes. His greatest joys in life came in the form of his grandchildren; Erin (Nick) Brown, Dallas (Taylor Gormley) Schwendeman, Kole (Megan Weekley) Counts, and Deric and Dani Nesselroad, and his great- grandchildren; Rhett Brown and Brenlynn Counts. He loved to watch them grow and learn. He spent hours watching them compete in various sporting events and was very proud to get to see all of his grandchildren graduate high school and go to college.
Dick spent the past several years with his loving companion, Joann Wallace. They enjoyed each other's company and made wonderful memories.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy, his parents, brother Jim, mother and father in-law Edith and William Eldridge, brother-in-law Dean Mills, sister-in-law Ellen Eldridge, niece Dorianna Kraps, and nephew Billy Eldridge. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, companion Joann, friends, and his faithful dog Shadow.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5-8 pm at Miller-Huck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at Oakland United Methodist Church.
Per his request, a caring cremation will take place with private burial at Oakland cemetery.
