Shirley M. Frye, 84, of Malta, died peacefully with family on Tuesday, Dec 29, 2020 at Altercare Care Center in Zanesville, Ohio.

Shirley was born Sept 21, 1936 to the late Clarence and Mary Margaret (Hunt) Thomas in Steubenville, Ohio.

Shirley was a healthcare provider all her life. She started as a nursing aide and she worked to become an LPN, then finally, a Registered Nurse in 1978. She worked at many ‘nursing homes’ giving her love and compassion to her beloved elderly before becoming an RN. Her RN nursing career started with Genesis Healthcare in Zanesville, OH and then she retired from Riverside Hospital in Columbus, OH in 1996.

Shirley will be deeply missed by daughters, Diane (Peter) Schwendeman, Newark, OH and Lois Flenniken, Malta, OH; grandchildren, Joshua (Jenny) Gilliland, Dublin, CA, Damon (Delaney) Gilliland, Lakewood, OH, Justin (Laura) Weaver, Granville, OH, and Sarah (Chris Roberts) Keirns, Dayton, OH; great grandchildren, Josh, Turner, Aliese, Dane, Porter, Claire, Colin, and Abby. Shirley is also survived by brothers, Jack (John) Thomas and Baron Thomas; brother-in-law, John (Ida) Flenniken; sister-in-law, Helen Flenniken; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by brothers, Edmond McCoy, Wayne Thomas, Clarence (Sonny) Thomas, Malcom Young, Doug Thomas; granddaughter, Faith Anna Semon; and son-in-law; Jerry Semon; husbands, Don Flenniken and Bill Frye.

The family wishes to extend a grateful, “Thank You”, to the wonderful and caring staff at Altercare Zanesville and Beth Morrison, RN with Absolute Hospice. A special thank you to, Chastidy Woods and Tiffiny Harris for their loving care. Following private family services, burial will be in Fort Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville, Ohio. Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville is entrusted with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Absolute Hospice, 39 Summit Court, Caldwell, Ohio 43724.
