Walter A. Spare, 84, of McConnelsville passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Riverside Landing Nursing & Rehab in McConnelsville. He was born August 6, 1939 in Heathville, PA a son of the late, Henry Spare and Ida Beers Spare. Walter was retired from Hartzell Hardwoods of Piqua, OH, where he worked for 40 years and was a member of their Century Club. He was a member of the McConnelsville Methodist Church and served in the U. S. Army Reserves. Walter was a member of the Neelysville Grange # 299 and held many offices. He was a former member of the Morgan County Farm Bureau and helped his sons in their mowing business. Walter also had served as a former McConnelsville Village Council member. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alvera Marcus Spare; two sons, Keith Spare and Kevin Spare all of McConnelsville; a sister, Twila Clark of Brockway, PA; a brother, Harold Spare of Heathville, PA.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Holly Spare; and a brother, Gary Spare. Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 12-2 p.m. at Miller-Huck Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Phil King officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #24 after the service. Walter will be laid to rest in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Ohl, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the McConnelsville Methodist Church or to the Neelysville Grange.
