Walter Dean Van Horn, 95, of McConnelsville passed away Monday, January 18, 2021 at his home with his family at his side. He was born June 21, 1925 in Muskingum County to the late, Earl Van Horn and Edna Lindimore Van Horn. Walter was a farmer and a former school bus driver. He was retired from the former Taylor Woodcraft and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. While serving his country, he was an expert rifleman and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Walter also was a Bristol Township central committeeman for many years. He is survived by three daughters, Susan (Larry) Troiano of Stockport, Jackie Shaffer of Vincent and Charlene (Johnson) Fleming of McConnelsville; a brother, Dewey Van Horn of Jackson; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona Lyon Van Horn; a son, Walter Dean Van Horn, Jr.; and a brother, Harold Van Horn. Due to current Covid 19 health concerns, a private funeral service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post # 24 Color Guard, 61 S. Kennebec Ave. McConnelsville. Miller-Huck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
