Carol touched many people in her life. but none more profoundly than those who saw how
how she dealt with her long illness. She handled it with dignity, courage and FAITH.
She was an inspiration to all of us.

I have no words to say that haven't already been said about this amazing woman. Morgan County was richly blessed the day she came here. The countless lives she touched will allow her influence to carry on. Prayers for comfort, peace, and many happy memories of a woman well-loved by all she touched.

I remember going to first grade and Mrs Hammond would sing the A Your Adorable song every morning while going through the alphabet and read to us in class. She read James and the Giant Peach & Charlie in the Chocolate Factory. One time she told us a story at the school picnic and used leaves to demonstrate her story. She was a sweet lady. After I grew up I was always so glad to see her and visit with her when we were both at the library and at the Opera House. Goodbye Mrs Hammond you will be missed!

Carol will always hold a special place in my heart. I grew up a couple houses down from the Hammond family- Candice and Christina were childhood best friends and Carol was like a second mom growing up. Though I have lived far away for several years now, I have fond memories of Carol's laugh. Of riding in the back seat of her big gray car. Of her love for diet Mountain Dew- Of her hilarious teaching stories (which I probably shouldn't mention here)- Her students loved her.
I appreciated Carol's kindness, and yet her bluntness and common sense practicality. Bottom line, she was just a really, really good person. She went too young, but I know she is at peace now. I love you Hammond family, and I am thinking about you constantly-

I was fortunate to teach at M & M in one of Carol's first years of teaching in the early 70's. When I was down at my mom's about 8 months ago, Carol was delivering baskets from the Grange. After my mom thanked her, we all talked about her long teaching career. She helped many students while raising a family including her grandchildren. When I would see her performing different duties at McKendree, I gained a greater appreciation of her christian beliefs. Maurice and the whole family stay strong!!

Our sincere condolences. We would always see Carol when we would return home and attend some event at McKendree. We will always remember her bight, wonderful smile. Of course, Tom and I were in the wedding party when you two began your walk together. Has it really been 38 years? I still have vivid memories of 4 guys in powder blue suits crawling through the window in your garage to prank your getaway car. It's a wonder we weren't arrested! Seeing the comments on this page, we know you must have many wonderful memories of the time God gave you together and that you are proud of the influence Carol has had on the community. Our prayers for your comfort will continue ...

Carol was a truly gifted teacher and mother. This county was blessed that she touched so many lives! I so enjoyed the many in depth conversations we had about kids and life. Every conversation involved laughter. I feel honored to have known such an amazing woman. Please know that I hold all of you in my thoughts and prayers.
Fondly,
Kelley

Not only was she a beautiful person inside and out but she was an angel sent from above that loved each child that she taught. She always had that special smile on her face and I can remember her hugs that helped this young mom. I'll never forget the first time Kelsie saw her it was so wonderful to see my daughter smile and feel at home. I still have the book that all the kids wrote to me for helping in her class. I teach the little ones that I teach at church the christian ABC song that she said with the kids besides the regular ABC's each day. I can also remember the prayer that she said with them each morning even if it was sometimes called a poem. I can remember when the kids would get to the letter "C" she had a picture for them to color that was a church and I remember her telling me she would always teach the kids all of these. Thank you Mr Hammond and both of you girls for sharing your wife and mom with each of us and our kids. Kelsie and Ryan loved her and her class as so do we. Praying that God will hold each of you in His loving arms now and in the days ahead. Love and prayers, Cindy

What a wonderful woman and great teacher to both our boys. She made learning interesting & truly loved the children and coming to see them everyday. This was evident in the happy-go-lucky, bubbly attitude she always maintained. She will be greatly missed. Our heart goes out to her family..... take care. Gary, Tonya, Justin & Jarred Mock

I taught with Carol, but never in the same building. She always brightenened a room with her smile and clever humor! She was our daughter, Kelly's second grade teacher and a teacher all children wanted. At a workshop, teachers were acting out children's stories.
Carol made her character come alive and everybody was lAughing!
Prayers for your family
