Evelyn M. Ross, 77, of McConnelsville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Highland Oaks Health Center, surrounded by her family.
She was born October 14, 1939, in Morgan County, to William and Jessie Teters Lighthizer.
After the death of her mother in 1943, she lived with her sister, Peggy Hooper, in Akron. She was then raised in McConnelsville by her aunt and uncle Alex and Almeda Spencer. She worked at Rocky Glenn in McConnelsville as a nurses aide until she became a full time mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Zion Christian Union in Portersville. She loved to bake and try new recipes. She entered her baked goods at the Morgan County Fair for many years where she won numerous awards. She was a 4-H Club adviser from 1977 to 1996. She also loved to camp, spend time with her children and grandchildren, and have spontaneous picnics and family gatherings. She also loved to sing in the church choir at nursing homes.
She is survived by her children, Judy Kuhn of Belpre, Sally Ross (Donald Murnahan) of Springfield, Jerry (Amy) Ross of Malta, and Susan (Donnie) Alfman of Oakfield; grandchildren, Nathan Kuhn, Janie Murnahan, Kayla Ross, Cory Ross, Philip Murnahan, Nicole Kuhn, and Duke and Drake Alfman; and sister, Peggy Hooper of Malta.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Ross, whom she married April 29, 1966, and he died on August 21, 2013; and brothers, Carl and Denzil Lighthizer.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Main Street Church of Christ in McConnelsville, with Evangelist Rex McDonald officiating.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Zion Cemetery, Portersville.
Friends may call on the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church on Saturday.
Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville is entrusted with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Genesis Hospice in Zanesville or the Highland Oaks resident fund in McConnelsville.
